Client History

Repligen Corporation operates in a highly regulated industry where accurate documentation is essential for shipment and compliance. Within the warehouse and logistics department, supporting documents were created manually by the Associate Director using predefined templates. While the process worked, it depended heavily on individual effort and local file storage. As order volumes increased, the manual approach began to slow operations and limit visibility across teams.

Challenges

The existing workflow created several operational issues.

  • Supporting documents were generated manually
  • The process was labor intensive and repetitive
  • Significant time was consumed preparing document packages
  • Shipment dispatch was delayed due to documentation bottlenecks
  • Documents were saved locally with limited visibility on shared drives

The client wanted to remove these incompetences and build a structured, automated system that would improve speed and accuracy.

Goals & Objective

Repligen’s primary objective was to automate the document packaging process to improve overall business efficiency.

Key goals included:

  • Reduce manual effort in document preparation
  • Shorten shipment processing time
  • Improve document visibility and accessibility
  • Standardize document generation
  • Ensure version control and centralized storage
  • Create a scalable system to support future growth

The company aimed to build a custom web based Resin Document Packaging System that could pre feed order information and generate supporting documents automatically.

Solutions

Acme One designed a solution built around two core components.

SharePoint Online for Document Management

SharePoint Online was implemented as the central cloud based document management system. It handled:

  • Document sharing and version control
  • Template management
  • Document grouping and packaging
  • Resin database management
  • Attribute based search
  • Reporting and email alerts

This provided structure, transparency, and collaboration across teams.

ASP.NET Custom Web Application

A custom ASP.NET web application was developed to act as the document generation interface.

The application:

  • Pulled order data from the Dynamics GP database through web services.
  • Applied document generation logic and field mapping.
  • Looked up resin specific information.
  • Generated supporting documents automatically.
  • Uploaded document packages directly into SharePoint document sets.

This eliminated the need for manual template handling and local storage.

Implementation

The project followed an iterative development methodology.

  • A detailed requirement gathering phase was conducted first to document all use cases and workflows.
  • Development was then implemented in assembled 3 to 4 week sprints. Each sprint delivered a specific subset of functionality, allowing feedback and adjustments along the way.
  • The final solution was implemented using:
  • SharePoint Online for document management
  • ASP.NET for the custom web based application
  • Integration testing ensured accurate data retrieval, correct document generation, and seamless upload to SharePoint.
