The business management aims to initiate a social app for explorers. Their purpose was to provide incentive to users with crypto for sharing travel photos. The management, rather than building a blockchain from scratch, decided on the Steem social blockchain. The reason for this decision is due to its active community. Their goal was to tap into the existing Steem ecological system while providing a flowing mobile experience for Android and iOS users.
The project came with a few clear challenges. Users had to sign up using their existing Steem profiles only. No traditional email or password system was allowed. The app needed full social features like feeds, posts, and comments, all powered by blockchain data. Secure authentication had to be handled through Steem Connect. The mobile app had to perform well while interacting with blockchain APIs in real time. Admin reporting and moderation tools were required on the backend.
The main objectives were straightforward. Build a mobile social app connected directly to the Steem blockchain. Allow users to post content, comment, and interact just like a typical social network. Reward users with crypto for their activity. Ensure a smooth login experience using Steem Connect. Launch the app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store with a single codebase.
We planned a method that merged social media features with distributed ledger technology. React Native was selected for the frontend so the app could perform on Android and iOS. These enabled React Native to perform without managing two distinct codebases. This helped speed up development and ensured a consistent user experience. To handle blockchain interactions, we built a JavaScript based integration layer. This layer managed communication with the Steem API and handled authentication using Steem Connect. For administration and reporting, a separate backend was developed using ASP.NET Core. This backend allowed the client to monitor activity, manage content, and generate reports. The entire backend was deployed on Microsoft Azure for stability and scalability.
The project was delivered in clear phases. Designed the app flow around Steem based authentication. Integrated Steem Connect for secure user login. Built core social features including user profiles, feeds, posts, and comments. Connected all content actions directly to the Steem blockchain. Developed an admin and reporting backend in ASP.NET Core. Deployed backend services on Azure and published the mobile app for both platforms.
